Consulting and Design for Walkable Communities |
|
Civitech, Inc. provides new urbanism planning, design and consulting services and implementation assistance for mixed use, walkable neighborhoods, with a special focus on sustainable infrastructure practices. Civitech provides charrette support services to other firms, and also leads charrettes for private developers, municipalities, neighborhood foundations, and other non-profit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. The firm's areas of expertise include street design, site design, planning, utilities and infrastructure, particularly those aspects that are unique to the design of mixed-use, walkable communities. Over the past decade, Civitech Principal Tony Sease has created initial engineering and layout designs for scores of mixed-use, Traditional Neighborhood Development projects in twenty states, working closely to coordinate and translate between master planning firms and local engineering firms through final design, approvals, and implementation. Civitech, Inc. was founded in 1999 specifically to provide technical, design and implementation assistance for the planning and development of mixed-use walkable communities. Civitech has worked specifically with cities and towns in addressing long-term visioning for integration of sustainable infrastructure practices. This work has included efforts with leaders of new urbanism, including Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater–Zyberk, as well as work as an urban design consultant to William McDonough + Partners, leaders of the green building movement. The firm has also played a key role in the recently completed Mountain Landscapes Initiative for Western North Carolina, a broad-based planning effort focused on creating a ‘toolbox’ for towns, counties and developers to use in addressing growth and development pressures throughout a seven county region. Civitech brings a unique interdisciplinary expertise to the planning and design challenges in creating walkable, sustainable communities. We are currently engaged in projects across the southeast, as well as certain areas in the midwest, northeast, west coast and internationally. |
